COVID-19: NCDC Begins The Use Of Cobas System In Abuja

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says it has started using Cobas system at the National Reference Laboratory for coronavirus testing in FCT.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the agency noted that the system will allow the NCDC to conduct a total of 980 tests within 8 hours.
Today we have began with the use of the COBAS system at the NCDC National Reference Laboratory, for coronavirus testing Using this, a total of 960 samples can be conducted in 8 hours it said.
This begins the 2nd pronjection of our national strategy to integrate our lab systems and to also increase testing capacity.
Cobas is a system used for a real-time test focused at qualitative detection of nucleic acids from swab samples taken from individuals who shows symptoms related to coronavirus.
NCDC said that the use of the Cobas system is the second phase of its national strategy to increase testing capacity and integrate laboratory systems across the country.
However Nigeria has recorded 195 new cases which brings the total of infections to 1,532.
Of the new infections, 80 was recorded in Lagos, 38 in Kano, while 15 Ogun State, 15 in Bauchi, 11in Borno, 10in Gombe, 9 in Sokoto, 5 in Edo and Jigawa, 2 in Zamfara, and 1 in Rivers, Delta, Nasarawa, Enugu, and FCT.
